TRUSTED BY LEADERS AND ORGANIZATIONS
THE BIGGEST OBSTACLE TO TRANSFORMATION MAY NOT BE WHAT YOU THINK
Organizations can have the right strategy, technology and talent and still struggle to move forward.
Under pressure or uncertainty, even highly capable people tend to retreat to familiar patterns. The result can be resistance to change, siloed thinking, communication breakdowns, slow adoption and difficulty getting people aligned around a new direction.
Tom helps leaders understand what is happening beneath the surface and gives them practical tools to change it.

The Human Operating System is Tom’s practical framework for helping leaders recognize the human patterns that hold organizations back and create the conditions for people to adapt, collaborate and perform.

THE HUMAN OPERATING SYSTEM
Practical Neuroscience for Human-Centered Workplaces
Every organization wants growth, innovation, and stronger performance. But even with the right strategy and talented people, progress can stall when teams default to familiar ways of thinking and working.
The challenge isn’t capability; it’s human wiring. Under pressure and uncertainty, the brain naturally gravitates toward safety, familiarity, and predictability, often overriding the very behaviors change requires.
Tom helps leaders recognize those patterns, move beyond them, and tap into the human capacity for creativity, adaptability, and intentional action.

ABOUT TOM
Tom brings a perspective few speakers can offer.
Over four decades, he has served in senior executive roles including CIO, COO, and President; leading people, technology and transformation inside major organizations including Nordstrom, VF Corporation, Dollar Tree, and STIHL.
He understands what change looks like from inside the executive suite: ambitious strategies, competing priorities, skeptical teams, organizational complexity and the very real challenge of getting people to adopt new ways of thinking and working.
The Human Operating System grew out of that experience.
Tom doesn’t simply explain why people behave the way they do. He helps leaders understand what to do differently because of it.

WHAT LEADERS AND AUDIENCES ARE SAYING
I’ve had the privilege of hearing Tom Scott share his insights on leadership and the human operating system, drawing from his extensive experience applying it at major companies and his decorated C-suite career. His ability to connect with and inspire leaders at every level is remarkable—I’ve seen him engage and impress an intimate room of EVP / C-level tech leaders just as powerfully as he does a packed summit of leaders from all backgrounds. His content is both insightful and actionable, making a lasting impact on those who hear him speak.
Leah Price Williams, The Mercury Company, Founder & CEO
Confession: I’m a consultant skeptic, a mindset shaped by decades in corporate life. Most outside consultant sessions I attended were forgettable. So, imagine my surprise when, just 80 pages into Going Beyond Business As Usual, I thought: If I were an executive, I’d absolutely engage these guys to help my team implement these concepts.
High-performance teams embrace and manage conflict productively. Tom and Dick’s communication strategies provide a powerful, sustainable tool for building such teams. This book made me rethink my anti-consultant bias!

Sincerity meets common sense, Tom always seems to find a way to bridge the complexity of business with the complexity of people, helping me unpack methods to keep them both in harmony. He expresses balance as a common theme, in practical terms, that is essential for any executive that wants to be an effective leader.

I was a 3 time CEO and hired Tom twice as my CIO/COO. The principles of the Human Operating System, and Tom’s ability to bring them to life for executive teams, helped me and my organizations leap across the knowing-doing gap to get better results. Tom’s genius lies in his ability to translate well-tested concepts into new behaviors that drive performance. If I were still a Vistage Chair, Tom would be my first speaker for each group, and my Members would still be thanking me years later.
